HIBERNIAN hope to complete the signings of Anthony Stokes and Kevin Thomson today after spending yesterday locked in negotiations with their signing targets.

Stokes agreed to join the Championship club until the end of the season last week despite interest from Premiership clubs Dundee United and Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Cardiff City and Leeds United in England.

The Easter Road club were unable to get the player registered in time for the game against Falkirk at Westfield on Sunday. However, Alan Stubbs, the Hibs manager, is hoping the deal to take the Republic of Ireland internationalist back to Edinburgh will be finalised soon.

Stokes, who attended the league meeting with Falkirk, scored 22 goals in 40 appearances for Hibs in the 2009/10 season to earn a £2m move to Parkhead.

The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Scottish champions this season and was last involved in a first-team game back in August.

He was suspended for a breach of discipline in November and manager Ronny Deila has agreed to let him go out on loan to resurrect his career.

Thomson, who left Dundee last week after telling the manager he felt his body was unable to handle playing in the top flight, was pictured in a Hibs jacket in Falkirk at the weekend.

The former Rangers and Middlesbrough midfielder launched his career at Hibs and also played for them when they were relegated to the Championship in the 2013/14 season.

On Sunday Stubbs said: “With Anthony we are hoping to get it tied up. Kevin will give us a bit of experience in the dressing room and he will probably incorporate some coaching with the younger groups.

“The fact that both Anthony and Kevin have won things in their careers is very important because we are getting to the stage in the season when things will start to pan out and give us a real indication of how we are going to finish the season.”
