RANGERS legend Brian Laudrup has backed new Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko to shine at Celtic after insisting he should ignore Denmark's assistant manager.
The Hoops splashed out £1.5 million to land the international stopper this week, but Danish No.2 Peter Bonde said he believed Sviatchenko had made the wrong move and should have gone to the Bundesliga.
But Ibrox icon Laudrup reckons Celtic is the perfect move for the former FC Midtjylland ace.
However, Laudrup has warned his countryman not to think a switch to Parkhead will guarantee him easy titles.
He said: "I disagree with Peter, if Erik went to Germany he would probably not play too many games.
"But at Celtic he will be used a lot by Ronny Deila and gain experience.
"He will get plenty of time on the ball at Celtic too.
"But in Scotland, he won't get anything for free. He is playing for the best team in the league there, but the players are far more aggressive than in Denmark.
"The game is faster and the battles are tougher. It's more of a contact sport.
"I definitely think he will develop in the next few years at Celtic and won't stagnate.
"Teams there are maybe not at Celtic's level, but they fight for everything.
"Erik might be surprised if he is thinking he can just go to Celtic and win a couple of championships. He might well win them...but it is hard work."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
