CALLUM McGregor has declared that Celtic are capable of winning the treble this season as they prepare to enter an important run of games in the League Cup, Premiership and Scottish Cup.

McGregor and his Parkhead team mates will take on top flight rivals Ross County in the semi-final of the League Cup at Hampden on Sunday afternoon.

Then three days later they will play second-placed Aberdeen in a league match at Pittodrie which will go a long way towards deciding who wins the Scottish title.

And on Sunday week they take on Lowland League minnows East Kilbride in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup at New Douglas Park.

Ronny Deila’s charges are confident of winning them all after scoring 15 goals and picking up nine points in three league games against Dundee United, Hamilton and St. Johnstone in the space of nine days.

Last season Deila was denied a clean sweep of domestic trophies when a controversial refereeing decision denied them victory in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

But McGregor, who was outstanding in the 3-1 victory over St. Johnstone at the weekend, revealed they are confident of going one better in the 2015/16 campaign.

“It’s always difficult to win the treble,” he said. “We need to take each game as it comes but in the last few games we have played some really good stuff.

“We’ve scored a lot of goals and been decent defensively. We need to keep that winning mentality and that hunger to keep hitting the back of the net. Hopefully that will take us over the line in the coming weeks.

“We have the whole package. We’ve looked solid and we have the experience of Broony to come back in as well, which will make us even better. Everyone has been pulling their weight of late and we’ve looked really good.

“We are comfortable with the treble talk. When you are at a big club there are big expectations. We have to try to win every game and see where that takes us. That has to be the focus.

“The cup ties are one-offs so you have to be at your best on the day. But we have the players here who are capable of going out and doing it.”

McGregor believes an improved defence has been important to Celtic recovering from the dip in form they suffered when they lost to Motherwell last month, drew to Hearts and struggled to beat Partick Thistle.

He said: “They boys have done really well at the back. It’s given us a great platform to go and play. You saw it the other night against Hamilton.

“The two centre halves had us on the front foot by going and winning the ball and it allowed the rest to go and express themselves.

“We’ve got (Erik) Sviatchenko to come in as well. The boys are looking forward to seeing what he brings to the team.

“He’s a suave big guy and he fancies himself a wee bit. Hopefully he’ll do well. He’s a nice big lad so he should fit in pretty well with the boys.”

Meanwhile, McGregor has confirmed that he has been impressed with Croatian trialist Ljuban Crepulja during the midfielder’s time training at Lennoxtown.

“He has been good,” he said. “He is nice technical player and has looked sharp in training. He is just another one we can keep an eye on. Hopefully he progresses in training.”
