SHAY LOGAN signed a new two-year contract at Aberdeen and warned his former manager Mark Warburton that a rude awakening awaits Rangers in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Logan admits that the pull of European football and the prospect of the Ibrox club bidding to be the main challengers to Celtic were the main reasons he opted to extend his stay in the Granite City.

However, the right-back insists Warburton and his Championship winners are in for a shock in the top tier next term.

"No disrespect to the Championship, but there are teams in that division that are nowhere near the standard there is in the Premiership,” stated Logan, who worked with Warburton at Brentford.

"That's why I think Rangers will get a shock at the quality they come across - not just from us, but from Hearts and the likes of Ross County, Dundee and Motherwell.

"It is going to be a bit of a culture shock for them adapting to being back in the top flight again.

"It is going to be a lot harder for Rangers next season, but Mark knows that and will be looking to bring in the players to cope.

"Don't get me wrong, I think they will be challenging, but they will find it tough as we will be right up there again.

"Hearts will be looking to improve as well and, if Hibs get back up, they will fancy their chances. It is all set for an exciting league.

“I'm certainly not surprised how Mark has done at Rangers as he only just failed to get Brentford promoted to the English Premier League.

"In fact, he would probably still be there if the owner had gone about things differently as it was down to how players were brought in and stuff like that as to why he left.”

The outspoken Logan, a fans’ favourite at Pittodrie, also revealed that the Old Firm rivalry sometimes spills over into the Dons changing-room.

"You have people in our team who support Rangers and others who supported Celtic when they were younger,” he said. "Even now, they still have little digs at each other.

"I love all the rivalries and I love the games against Celtic, although I still get abuse.”
