ALEX McLeish will hold talks with Brann Bergen next week as the Norwegian club launch an ambitious move to make the former Scotland boss their new manager.

And former Brann striker Robbie Winters reckons it's the perfect job for his countryman.

Brann are seeking a new boss and the club's general manager, Roald Bruun-Hanssen, was cagey about McLeish's arrival next week.

He said: "I will not confirm or deny this. I cannot comment on this."

But Brann are believed to have lined up outside investors that will contribute to McLeish's salary, with the former Rangers and Aston Villa boss keen to get back into football.

And Winters believes it could be a good move for both parties.

He said: "He is a manager with a good track record. He has experience at a very high level. If Brann can get him to Bergen, then I think it will be a good choice.

"For me, he has no reason to say no to Brann because he has been without a club a long time and Norway can be a good option.

"His style could fit into Norwegian football and I think he will improve the players at the club.

"McLeish has a large network of contacts and that's bound to be a big advantage for the club.

"He can bring in some experienced players to add to the promising youngsters already at the club.

"He is a winner and never settles for second place. He has a big presence about him."

Former Aberdeen defender McLeish has also managed Motherwell, Hibs, Birmingham City and his last job was an ill-fated 40-day spell in charge of Nottingham Forest that ended in February this year.

Now he could become the first Scotsman to be a manager in Norway since Davie Hay guided Lillestrom to the title in 1989.
