The worries mounted for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as his side were beaten 2-0 by Swansea at the Emirates with two late goals from Michu.
The Spanish striker slid home the opener in the 88th minute, and struck in injury time as the Gunners left the field to a chorus of boos.
At the Etihad Stadium Manchester City drew 1-1 with Everton – Marouane Fellaini's eighth goal of the season gave David Moyes' men a first-half lead before Carlos Tevez equalised from the penalty spot on 43 minutes.
Manchester United remain in top spot after a 4-3 win at Reading, with all seven goals coming in a 34-minute spell in the first half. Hal Robson-Kanu gave Reading an early lead before Anderson levelled and Wayne Rooney put United ahead from the penalty spot. Goals from Adam Le Fondre and Sean Morrison were then cancelled out by another effort from Rooney and a neat finish from Robin van Persie gave United the spoils.
Harry Redknapp's home debut in charge of Queens Park Rangers ended in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Brett Holman's goal cancelled out by Jamie Mackie's 18th-minute header.
Jermain Defoe scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur cantered to a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. Sandro put Spurs ahead in the 55th minute, before Defoe took over.
Daniel Agger's 43rd-minute header proved enough as Liverpool won 1-0 over struggling Southampton at Anfield.
Substitute Dean Whitehead snatched a 75th-minute winner for Stoke at The Hawthorns as West Bromwich Albion fell to a second successive defeat. Whitehead poked home a ball into the box by Michael Kightly for the 1-0 win.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
