Bookies start paying out as Man Utd go 12 points clear

Bookmakers have begun to pay out for bets on Manchester United to regain their Premier League title after Sir Alex Ferguson's team finished the weekend 12 points ahead of their city rivals, with only 12 games to go.

Paddy Power made the bold declaration even before United beat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford today, but after Manchester City had been ripped apart 3-1 by relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday.

It has become a feature of recent championships that bookmakers call the outcome before it actually happens, although Betfred came a cropper last season when they paid out on United, only for City to overhaul their rivals over the final six games.
