Brendan Rodgers: I'm sure I'll sign a new deal at Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers is certain he will agree a new deal at Liverpool.

The Northern Irishman is on the brink of ending the Merseyside club's 24-year wait for a league title, having revolutionised their fortunes since taking over two years ago.

The 41-year-old penned a three-year deal in the summer of 2012 and this season's achievements mean a new one is likely to be offered soon.

"There is no doubt that at some point we will agree another deal," he said. "I am sure of that."

Liverpool will take a giant stride towards the title if they beat Chelsea on Sunday.

The Blues and Manchester City are the only sides in the running to stop them and, having beaten City a fortnight ago, Rodgers' men will be on the brink if they see off Chelsea.

If they do, Rodgers will be getting the better of former mentor Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese took Rodgers to Chelsea in his first spell there, putting him in charge of the club's academy and then promoting him to reserve team coach.

He also advised him to take the Liverpool job, but Rodgers is confident Mourinho will not regret doing so if Liverpool pip his side to the title.

"I am sure he won't," he added.

"He's been supportive of me wherever I have been, even in my time here. We might be considered a rival but I know that if they didn't win the league he would want us to win it.

"I was always going to appear somewhere and thankfully it was at Liverpool. I was talking to him about I choice I maybe had. He told me to take the job and what a great club Liverpool was. He encouraged me about the sheer scale of the club."
