Cowdenbeath manager Colin Cameron last night resigned after a run of four successive defeats left the Fife club in second bottom spot in the Championship.

The 41-year-old former Scotland internationalist met with chairman Donald Findlay and chief executive Alex Anderson last night, following the 4-0 defeat by Falkirk on Saturday. Later, Cameron issued a statement, saying that he had asked to be allowed to step aside "in order to allow the club to look elsewhere for a manager to secure a position in the Championship."

Assistant manager Lee Makel will take charge of the first team until a new man is appointed.

Cameron led the Fifers to the Division 2 title in his first season in charge and retained First Division status with a final-day win last season.
