Celtic will play Shakhter Karagandy from Kazakhstan in the Champions League play-off.
The draw appears to be a favourable one for Neil Lennon's team as they bid to reach the group stages.
The first leg of the tie to be played in Kazakhstan on either Tuesday, August 20, or Wednesday, August 21, with the return at Parkhead on Tuesday, August 27 or Wednesday, August 28.
It is the first time a Scottish team has been drawn against a side from central Asia.
The Parkhead side beat Elfsborg in the third round of the Champions League 1-0 to secure their place in the play-off.
Shakhter, which was founded in 1958, eliminated BATE Borisov in the previous qualifying round; Borisov were one of only two clubs seeded higher than Celtic in the “Champions Path”.
The team, nicknamed the Miners, are managed by Viktor Kumykov.
In September 2008, Shakhter and FC Vostok were disqualified from the Kazakhstan Premier League for playing a fixed match. Club coaches and management were banned from football for five years. However, the Football Federation of Kazakhstan revisited the decision in October 2008 and Shakhter were instead given a nine point deduction, while FC Vostok were immediately expelled from the competition.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been drawn against Turkish club Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce are awaiting a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over whether they will be allowed to go into the competition proper this season, having been banned from competing in Europe by UEFA for match-fixing in domestic competition.
They have challenged that ruling and a CAS verdict is due before the group stage draw is made, but home and away matches against Arsenal stand to go ahead before that decision arrives.
UEFA today said no decision has yet been made regarding what would happen in the event of Fenerbahce winning the tie and losing their CAS appeal.
Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season, while Arsenal took fourth place in the Barclays Premier League.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
