NADIR CIFTCI will miss Dundee United's game against Hearts this weekend after being found guilty of "excessive misconduct" during the Scottish League Cup defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Turkish forward, who was likely to miss the game anyway because of a hamstring injury, has been banned for two games with one suspended until the end of the term and will only take effect in the event of a further misconduct breach.

Ciftci had originally been cited for "seizing hold" of assistant referee Gavin Harris "by the throat" but this was amended to "excessive misconduct at a match by placing an open hand into the lower area of the assistant referee's throat."

The 21-year-old was sent off after a brawl but that was downgraded to a yellow card after a claim of wrongful dismissal for violent conduct.
