Davidson flattered by interest from Ibrox

Murray Davidson will accelerate contract talks with St Johnstone this week – but concedes he is flattered to be linked with a move to Rangers.

The 24-year-old's contract expires next summer and the Ibrox side are thought to be keen to convince the player to let his deal run down, before signing the midfielder when their transfer embargo expires on September 1.

However, St Johnstone have not given up on holding on to the player and will offer him a lucrative extension in the coming days.Davidson said: "All I can do is concentrate on things on the park. I have seen a couple of things in recent days, linking me with here and there, but if you focus on that your performances will drop."St Johnstone called me last week to tell me they are going to offer me a contract and I said 'that is great'. This week we will talk further. I know some of the details and it is a very good contract offer, and I will look at my options."It is no secret that Rangers, and manager Ally McCoist, are long-term admirers of Davidson. The Ibrox club had a bid of £150,000 for the player rejected in the summer of 2011, with the then St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes describing the bid, which would have risen to £250,000 after add-ons, as "ridiculous".Davidson added: "Last time Rangers put in a bid it was more a problem when you are walking down the street. "My family is a Rangers family and I'm from a Rangers area. So people see that Rangers have put in a bid and you get a bit of stick off certain people.
