Ross County boss Derek Adams has described Jim Goodwin as a "ghost", claiming the St Mirren skipper got away with conceding a late penalty and kicking "lumps" out of his players during the Staggies' 2-1 Scottish Premiership defeat in Paisley.

Saints were leading 2-0 a fortnight ago when the original game was abandoned in the second half because of a waterlogged pitch and were back in front with the same scoreline following goals from Steven Thompson and Conor Newton either side of the break.

Steven Saunders pulled a goal back before County wide-man Ivan Sproule was shown a straight red card by referee William Collum for an awful challenge on Buddies stopper Marc McAusland.

Saunders then joined the Northern Irishman after picking up two quick bookings for challenges, the first on John McGinn, the second on Kenny McLean, before the game ended in more controversy when Goodwin appeared to blatantly handle the ball inside his own box in the final moments only for play to continue.

The County boss, who had "no complaints" about either sending off was both sarcastic and caustic towards the Irishman in his summation of the game afterwards.

Adams said: "Jim Goodwin wasn't playing today, was he? He had seven or eight fouls and didn't have a booking.

"He handled the ball last week (against Partick Thistle) and he handled the ball this week.

"I don't think he actually plays football any more.

"The referees don't actually see Jim Goodwin and that must be a great thing.

"How he got away without being booked is terrible because we had two players sent off.

"We had a player sent off for two bookings and Jim Goodwin walks about the park and kicks lumps out of people and nothing happens and sometimes people have to look at that.

"I don't want to get players booked but he deserved to get booked.

"There is no point in talking to the officials. Willie Collum is one of the best officials in the game but he sadly got it wrong.

"Jim Goodwin went through Melvin De Leeuw a few times in the first (original) game and nothing happened and today, he is allowed to go...I think he is a ghost actually."

When asked if assistant referee Charlie Smith might have helped Collum with the penalty claim, Adams said: "We were losing 2-0 here the last time, does that go through the mind?

"Today we are 2-1 down, we are down to nine men and we get a penalty and we score and make it 2-2 then the whole of Paisley goes mental.

"The players feel we are not getting the breaks. Take nothing away from St Mirren they played very well in the first half but in the second half everyone seen it was a penalty kick - but Jim is not here."

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon told Adams to mind his own business and claimed his side, who moved into eighth place with their fourth win in five games, are only getting the breaks which are "overdue".

"Derek will have his own opinions but I think any manager should concentrate on their own side, nothing more," he said.

"Jim is a competitive player and that is his make-up.

"I have not seen it (penalty claim) yet but I am led to believe that it is a hand ball.

"If it is our turn to get that we get a bit of luck then it is certainly overdue.

"It is part and parcel of the game, you get ones that go for you, ones that don't and that is the wee bit of luck that we had.

"You can talk about that but I think overall, with the amount of strikes we had on goal, between 18 and 20, the disappointing thing was we didn't have any more goals for our efforts."
