Dunfermline Athletic faced a rush to agree new contracts with nine players ahead of the close of the transfer window on Saturday or be left with a vastly depleted squad for the rest of the season. The reality of administration had meant that most players could only be retained on monthly deals, although that changed during the last window.

Monthly deals were no longer possible after the signing deadline had passed, with any player who did not sign an extension until the end of the season unable to play again until the January window. The likes of Josh Falkingham, Callum Morris, Ryan Wallace and Andy Geggan were already secured on such deals but there were 10 others whose immediate futures had to be resolved, with goalkeeper Michal Hrivnak agreeing to move on having been unable to settle.

"We needed to get it resolved so we spent the last few days of last week getting boys to sign contracts for the rest of the season," said Jim Jefferies, the Dunfermline manager. "They were all desperate to stay, so we had no problems."
