Fraser Forster was left disappointed yesterday when Roy Hodgson named Alex McCarthy as England's third goalkeeper for the friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

McCarthy has impressed for Reading in recent weeks and the 23-year-old replaces the Celtic goalkeeper in the squad. Striker Andy Carroll, on loan at West Ham from Liverpool, has been recalled for the games against Ireland at Wembley on May 29 and the trip to Brazil on June 2.
