Gary Mackay-Steven will become a Celtic player this summer after signing a pre-contract agreement with the club today.

The talented midfielder has been the subject of much attention during the transfer window, with manager Nigel Clough tabling three bids in order to get his man.

However, the winger, who has dazzled in the Scottish top flight since making his debut in tangerine almost four years ago, was not keen to move to England's League One.

And after Celtic manager Ronny Deila spoke out of his desire to bring GMS to Parkhead earlier this week, a deal was finally done this morning that will see him come to Glasgow when his contract at Tannadice expires in the summer.

A Celtic statement read: "Celtic are delighted to announce that Gary Mackay-Steven has signed a pre-contract agreement and he will join the club this summer.

"The 24-year-old made his first-team debut for Dundee United back in July 2011, and he has gone on to make almost 130 appearances for the Tannadice side, scoring 27 goals. He has also been capped by Scotland.

"Everyone at Celtic welcomes Gary to the club."

Speaking on Thursday, Hoops boss Deila said of Mackay-Steven: "He is a player we have been looking at for a long time.

"We hope to sign a contract with him into the summer.

"If we can do something now we will do it but everything has its price.

"We haven't talked with him but we have talked to his agent and what we understand is that he is interested in coming to Celtic.

"We have an opportunity to get him under contract from the summer and we will do what we can to arrange it and hopefully it will be arranged in a few days."
