JOHN GEMMELL, the Stenhousemuir striker, has escaped with a warning after he admitted making "comments of an offensive nature" on Twitter towards Rangers and their manager Ally McCoist.

A Scottish Football Association disciplinary tribunal issued the 29-year-old with a censure.

Gemmell's comments came after McCoist criticised a decision to rearrange his side's League One away game against Stenhousemuir to the Sunday of a week in which they had also played at Dunfermline Athletic and Airdrie United.

Gemmell, whose Twitter account was later closed, said: "McCoist is a p****, game against Stenny should be midweek?... Why, so we are f***** after working all day whilst your boys can lie and get a massage for three days before checking their £5k a week wages are in? Away and f*** off £Embarrassing."

McCoist hugged Gemmell after his side's 2-0 win at Ochilview on January 5, and later laughed off the comments.

Today marks the second anniversary of the Ibrox club going into administration and, while financial issues continue to dog them, McCoist was in optimistic mood.

He said: "Walter [Smith] went on record as saying we were going to have two or three years of really hard times. I would absolutely echo and agree with that but within the hard times you'd hopefully have one or two opportunities to smile about and be happy about.

"At this moment in time, I'd probably say we have one of them. I'm loath to tempt fate but the team are still top of the league and going really well.

"We've only dropped two points, we've reached the Ramsdens Cup final and have reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with a home tie to look forward to."

Meanwhile, Madjid Bougherra, the former Rangers defender, has reaffirmed that he wants to return to Ibrox to end his career. The Algerian will be looking for a new club in the summer after deciding to leave Lekhwiya in Qatar.

Bougherra said: "I have always said I would want to finish my career in Glasgow with Rangers. The question would be whether that is immediately or maybe in a few years' time."
