JOHN EUSTACE has arrived in Glasgow to hold talks with Rangers.

The 35-year-old midfielder left Derby County at the end of the season and has been targeted by Ibrox manager Mark Warburton as the man he wants to build his side around.

Warburton has already signed Danny Wilson on a three-year deal and is close to completing a £200,000 move for Wigan Athletic centre-back Rob Kiernan. He insists, though, that he is not troubled by Eustace's age despite the fact he plans to construct his Rangers revolution largely around young players with room for improvement.

"John's a player I know very well," said the former Brentford boss. "I worked with him at Watford. He is an outstanding professional.

"I'll have a chat with John and his representatives and we'll see what happens.

"I know he's 35, but do you remember when Davie Weir came to Rangers? What was he, 35, 36? And he didn't too badly did he?

"I love working with young players, but there's a need for one or two older heads."

Eustace required surgery on a knee injury in January, but Warburton will not allow that to put him off securing a deal.

"John's now in a good rehab programme and he'll be four or five weeks away," he said. "If he comes to the club, I'm sure he provide outstanding value."

"I am just here to meet the manager and see what it is is all about," said Eustace after arriving at Glasgow Airport.

"He has said it is an unbelievable place and that it will be a very exciting time over the next few years.

"It is exciting. It is one of the biggest clubs in Europe."

Eustace has admitted that he is not ready to return to full training at the end of this week should he secure a contract.

"I am still a few weeks off," he said. "I have only just started running, but I hope to be fit for the new season."
