Legia sack official for clerical error

Legia Warsaw have dismissed the administrator considered responsible for the clerical error which allowed Celtic back into the Champions League.

Marta Ostrowska was identified as the official who failed to acknowledge that Bartosz Bereszynski was still suspended, with the player coming on as a late substitute in the second leg against Celtic at Murrayfield.

It was an oversight which has cost Legia up to £20m of Champions League money as a consequence of the club's expulsion from the competition and led to three other members of the clubs administrative staff being suspended. Ostrowska received death threats from supporters and has been sacked after a meeting with the Polish club's hierarchy.
