Rangers were last night discussing the value of contesting potential suspensions for Kris Boyd and Bilel Mohsni and freeing them to play in Saturday's SPFL Championship visit to Livingston.

Boyd and Mohsni have both been offered two-game bans by the new Scottish Football Association compliance officer, Tony McGlennan, over incidents that took place in the Ibrox club's 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Hibernian on Monday.

Club sources told Herald Sport that Rangers were considering their position and would respond to the Scottish Football Association before today's deadline. Should they choose to argue in favour of both players, the hearings would be heard on Thursday, October 9, at Hampden Park.

That course of action would allow their manager, Ally McCoist, to list Mohsni and Boyd in his squad for the trip to the Energy Assets Arena as he endeavours to close the six-point gap opened by Hearts at the top of the table.

Boyd has been issued with a notice of complaint for "head-butting or attempting to head-butt" Jordon Forster, the Hibernian centre-back, during a confrontation in the second half of Monday's match.

Mohsni's charge relates to "striking or attempting to strike an opponent with your arm or hand". The Tunisian internationalist appeared to swing his right arm at Liam Fontaine in the wake of Rangers' goal in the 55th minute after the Hibernian defender had knocked the ball out of his hands as he carried it back towards the halfway line for the restart.
