James McFadden will miss three games through suspension after St Johnstone accepted his notice of complaint for an offensive gesture.

McFadden was handed a two-match ban on top of the automatic suspension he received following his red card against Hamilton on Sunday.

The 31-year-old reacted to the goading of visiting fans after receiving a second booking during his side's 1-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at McDiarmid Park.

McFadden is due to miss games against Partick Thistle, Inverness and Aberdeen before being available for a return to Fir Park to face former club Motherwell on January 31.

Meanwhile, Hibernian have appealed a one-match ban handed to striker Jason Cummings.

Cummings made a similar gesture to McFadden's during Saturday's Edinburgh derby with Hearts at Tynecastle after scoring the opening goal in the 1-1 draw.

The 19-year-old striker was booked for his celebrations but responded to the charge issued on Tuesday by tweeting - and then deleting - the following post: "Match ban for celebrating your goal..Bore off. The games gone!"

Cummings' case will now go before a principal hearing of the judicial panel on Thursday after the club confirmed they were contesting the punishment which would rule him out of Saturday's Easter Road clash with Falkirk.

In a statement, the Leith side said: "Following review of the information received from the SFA Compliance Officer, Hibernian Football Club can confirm that the one match suspension offered to Jason Cummings for an alleged breach of Rule 200 has been rejected and that the club have requested that the matter be referred to The Judicial Panel who will meet at a Principal Hearing on Thursday 8 January."
