NEIL LENNON is on the brink of a return to football after reports in Saudi Arabia suggested that Al-Ittihad are about to appoint the former Celtic manager.

The Northern Irishman has been out of management since leaving Celtic Park at the end of last season, despite a host of jobs having become available in England.

"We want a world-class coach and are in talks with candidates," said Ibrahim Al-Balawi, the Al-Ittihad president. "With regards to the speculation with Neil Lennon, we won't be making a comment until any deal is formally concluded."

Former River Plate coach Ramon Diaz and current Romania manager Victor Piturca have also been linked with the vacancy at Al-Ittihad, who last won the Saudi Professional League five years ago.
