St Johnstone have confirmed that they have appealed a fine given to them by UEFA following a Europa League qualifying tie with Slovakian side Spartak Trnava in July.

UEFA have ordered the Perth club to pay £14,300 after a Palestinian flag was spotted in the crowd.

The European governing body has deemed the offence "insufficient organisation" and St Johnstone requested a full written copy of the judgment after receiving the fine. Club officials have now confirmed that they will contest the decision.

"St Johnstone have challenged the severity of the fine for the flying of a Palestinian flag and have also contested a charge issued by UEFA relating to alleged insufficient organisation at the same match," said a club spokesperson.
