Liverpool winger Stewart Downing had a rare day to remember at Anfield as his first Barclays Premier League goal for the club wrapped up a comfortable 4-0 victory over Fulham.

Last week the England international admitted he may leave next month after manager Brendan Rodgers said he could go. Downing made his first league assist, setting up Steven Gerrard – after Martin Skrtel's opener – and capped his performance with a goal before Luis Suarez's injury-time fourth.

Everton moved back into the top four as they beat West Ham United at Upton Park. Carlton Cole gave the home side the lead, moments after a Leon Osman effort had been ruled out for a Victor Anichebe foul on Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Anichebe levelled following the break before Cole was sent off for a high challenge on Leighton Baines and Everton's Steven Pienaar grabbed the winner – the visitors holding out after Darron Gibson was dismissed late on.

Substitute Shola Ameobi gave Newcastle United a 1-0 win over QPR at home, set up by Sylvain Marveaux.

Norwich City's 10-game unbeaten run came to an end as they were beaten 2-1 by West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Robert Snodgrass' free kick gave the Canaries the lead, but goals from Zoltan Gera and Romelu Lukaku won it for the home side.

Sunderland came away 1-0 winners from Southampton, Steven Fletcher finishing off from Stephane Sessegnon's mishit shot just before half-time.

Arsenal climbed up to third with a 1-0 win at Wigan Athletic thanks to a Mikel Arteta penalty, while Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City played out a goalless draw.
