Livingston were last night staring nervously at another financial crisis following the decision of Ged Nixon, the club's former chief executive, to sue the club for £300,000. He claims to have loaned that sum to the club during his time on the board.

A meeting was expected to be held between directors and supporters last night to outline the severity of the situation. Nixon had stepped down after Neil Rankine, Livingston's majority shareholder, chose to take a more hands-on role in an effort to tackle a debt that had reached £1.7m.

Nearly all of the club's arrears comprise interest-free loans to its main shareholders, but Nixon refused the deal. "The club does not have the money to pay Ged Nixon," said Rankine. "I have lost all respect for the man."
