PROMISING Scottish prospect Jack Harper could find out this week he has no Real Madrid future with Zinedine Zidane set to decide whether to keep him on.

The 19-year-old midfielder is now too old to play for the Bernabeu side's youth teams and the Spanish giants have axed their Real Madrid C team.

That means the French World Cup winner - who is manager of Real Madrid's reserve side, Castilla - has to decide which Under-19 youngsters he wants to promote to his squad.

If Harper doesn't make it, he could be on his way out of Real.

Harper himself appears to have prepared for the worst to happen by tweeting he was 'prepared for the challenges ahead.' He added: "Life will hit you hard, its not about how hard you can get hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep going forward."

The youngster was the subject of huge controversy this year when Scotland Under-19 manager Ricky Sbragia left him out of his squad for the European Championships Elite group in Austria.

The former Sunderland manager explained he omitted Harper because he wanted a more physical presence for the tournament.

It almost paid off with Scotland just a few minutes from qualifying in first place, after they went unbeaten in the tournament following a win over the hosts and draws against Italy and Croatia.

However, that didn't stop the former Manchester United coach - who is a strong contender for the vacant Scotland Under-21 managerial role - coming under heavy criticism.

There were even suggestions Spain would include Harper in their youth squads if Scotland didn't want him.

Harper signed a new deal with Madrid in 2012 after being with the legendary club since the age of 13.

But it looks increasingly likely that he may have to consider a future outside Real Madrid now.
