Ryan Conroy damaged Falkirk's play-off hopes with a late strike to give Raith Rovers a 1-0 win.

Conroy got the only goal of a tight encounter with 12 minutes left and Falkirk were unable to salvage things.

They had their chances. David McGurn saved well from Rory Loy midway through the first half then Blair Alston turned the loose ball wide.

Falkirk continued to press with Loy their main threat, but there was a let-off midway through the second half when Luke Leahy almost turned the ball into his own net.

The goal came shortly afterwards when Conroy converted at the back post from Rory McKeown's pass.

Falkirk laid siege to the Raith goal in the closing stages with Alston and Loy again going close but to no avail.

Queen of the South were held to a 1-1 draw at Alloa Athletic. Queens had the better of the first half and Iain Russell was denied the opening goal when Craig McDowall was equal to his stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Derek Lyle got the breakthrough when he struck from close range four minutes from half-time.

But Alloa came back strongly after the interval. Kyle Benedictus saw a header hit the post and Kevin Cawley and Greig Spence also came close.

Michael Doyle was kept out by an instinctive save from Zander Clark, but Cawley finally came up with the equaliser with 15 minutes left from Ryan McCord's assist.

Dumbarton proved too strong for Cowdenbeath at Central Park, winning 3-1 after applying the fatal blow when the home side were reduced to ten men after 72 minutes.

Colin Nish was unfortunate to see a volley hit the side-netting in the early stages and Archie Campbell should have been sharper later in the half with only the goalkeeper to beat.

It was Nish who made the breakthrough nine minutes from half- time with a controlled shot into the top corner of the net.

Cowdenbeath hit back in the second half and Danny Rogers, the Dumbarton goalkeeper, could do little to prevent Craig Sutherland from equalising with a close-in shot.

But Dumbarton kept their focus and, moments later, Lee Mair scored a rare goal, nudging home a header from a corner kick.

Cowdenbeath's task was made more difficult when Thomas O'Brien was sent off after stopping Chris Kane galloping clear on goal. The home side were doubly punished as Garry Fleming scored with the resulting free-kick to kill the contest.
