FORFAR Athletic moved to within a point of summit of League One with a 3-1 home win over Peterhead.

With their main rivals powerless to intervene (leaders Stranraer are involved in Scottish Cup action today and Morton's match with Stirling Albion was postponed), Forfar took full advantage.

Gavin Swankie scored twice in the second half and Peterhead's day was not helped by a red card for striker Rory McAllister late in the first half.

By that stage, Forfar led through a Chris Templeman goal and Swankie then made it 2-0 shortly after half-time.

Cammie Kerr gave Peterhead some hope when he pulled a goal

back after an hour but Swankie added his second late in injury-time to settle it.

In League Two, Albion Rovers wasted an opportunity to go clear at the top with joint leaders Arbroath otherwise detained at Easter Road.

Albion went down 2-0 at Elgin City and it could have been worse, Neil Parry saving a second-half penalty.

The joint leaders started brightly and Marc McKenzie forced a good early save from Ross Laidlaw.

But Elgin came back strongly and Dennis Wyness was kept out by a good save from Parry.

Wyness was not to be denied, however, and he put Elgin in front six minutes from the break.

Elgin should have made it 2-0 14 minutes from time when they were awarded a penalty but Parry made a superb save to keep out Archie MacPhee's effort.

But Shane Sutherland netted Elgin's second deep into injury-time to give them a deserved win.

Queen's Park moved to within a point with a 4-1 home victory over Montrose.

The home side dominated the early stages and Kevin Fotheringham had a good chance inside the area but his shot was blocked. Darren Miller tested Stuart McKenzie with a long-range shot

which the goalkeeper could not hold.

Miller then made the breakthrough after 24 minutes when he shot past McKenzie after good work from Jordan Moore. Miller was clearly in the mood and was not far away with a 30-yard free kick. Paul Woods made it 2-0 ten minutes from half-time when he beat McKenzie after being set up by Moore.

Ross Campbell pulled a goal back for Montrose with 13 minutes left but Queen's Park hit back.

Moore made it 3-1 from the penalty spot and marked a sparkling debut with the fourth goal three minutes from time.
