Suarez made return to Liverpool training ground to say goodbye

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard bid an "emotional" farewell to his former team-mate Luis Suarez on Monday morning as the striker made a brief return visit to the Reds' training ground.

Suarez, who left the Merseysiders to join Barcelona earlier this summer, certainly caused a few eyebrows to be raised when it emerged that he was back at the Melwood complex on transfer deadline day.

But he was there just to collect some belongings - as well as present a gift.

A picture has appeared on midfielder Gerrard's Instagram account of him and the Uruguay frontman smiling and holding up a signed 'Suarez 9' Barcelona shirt.

The image was accompanied by a message reading: "He is back bearing gifts.

"Emotional saying goodbye to the main man this morning. Best wishes to a phenomenal player."

Another image later appeared on Suarez's Twitter account, showing him in a group pose with Gerrard and Liverpool defenders Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan.

The accompanying words read: "Today I could say goodbye to some friends, it was exciting to remember the good moments that we lived together.

"Thank you for all the joy you gave me!!!!! Great picture with @glen_johnson, @jon_flan93 and Steven Gerrard!!!!"
