JIM WEIR, the new Elgin City manager, admits his top priority is making sure the Borough Briggs side do not fall victim to Scottish football's new pyramid system.

The former Highland League club, who parted company with previous manager Barry Wilson, are relying on Weir's lower-league experience with Angus clubs Montrose, Arbroath and Brechin to steer them to SPFL League 2 safety.

"I don't normally go public with targets but in this case, with the pyramid system in place now, it is important we get away from the bottom of the table and make sure we are safe," he said.

"We won't look too far ahead. That has to be the focus and we have to build confidence among the players. I'm up for the challenge."

Meanwhile, Cowdenbeath yesterday signed up the former Aberdeen and Motherwell left-back Jordan Halsman, who was a free agent after leaving Icelandic Premier League club Breidablik.
