After losing previous managers Owen Coyle, Derek McInnes and Steve Lomas to clubs in the Championship, along with £800,000 striker Stevie May to Sheffield Wednesday, fans feared their Scottish Cup-winning manager could be next to leave McDiarmid Park.
However, the Northern Irishman brushed aside any such suggestions. "I'm really happy that the contract has been agreed. There was never any intention of me leaving. Where I am in my management career, this is the perfect fit for me.
"The main body of the contract was agreed a few weeks ago. There were just a couple of things needing tidied up. There was never any question that I wasn't going to sign. It's a three-year deal and I'm looking forward to the work we've got ahead, and hopefully continuing the success we've enjoyed."
