Scotland’s Marc Warren is the highest ranked player left in the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Matchplay draw following the elimination of top seed James Morrison in the second round.

The Englishman battled bravely from five down with five to play to take his match to the 17th, but Johan Carlsson held off his fightback at that point and will now meet near namesake and compatriot Robert Karlsson who beat Spain’s Alejandro Canizares.

Warren was meanwhile in impressive form, rounding off his 3&2 defeat of Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti with a brace of 12 foot birdie putts to set up a meeting with Belgium’s ex-Ryder Cup player Nikolas Colsaerts who eased past South Africa’s Trevor Fisher 4&3.
