Tiger Woods is facing another prolonged period of rehabilitation after revealing that he has had more surgery on his back.

The former world No 1, who had a similar surgical procedure back in March 2014, had a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve removed on Wednesday.

"This is certainly disappointing, but I'm a fighter," Woods said on his official website. "I've been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will."

Although a full recovery is expected, Woods will be unable to play in the Frys.com Open, the Bridgestone America's Golf Cup in Mexico City and the Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas.

Woods, who is now languishing down in 283rd place on the world rankings, has been told he can expect to return to action in early 2016 but this latest operation is another huge blow to the ailing 14-times major winner.

"I appreciate the fans' concern and support," he added. "This is unfortunate, but these things happen. I've been injured before and played again. It won't be any different this time."
