Jack McDonald, the Barassie youngster who helped GB&I win the Walker Cup last season, has turned professional.

The 23-year-old, who appeared to be set for another campaign on the amateur front, has decided to take the pro plunge after earning a place in the PGA EuroPro Tour’s qualifying school final next week.

McDonald has signed up to Chubby Chandler’s ISM management group and joins a stable that includes Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Louis Oosthuizen, Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick.

“I’ve done a lot in the amateur game now and I think I’m ready to make the transition,” said McDonald.
