Doak, who went into the season-ending shoot-out in 36th place in the rankings, was always facing an uphill task to break into the leading 20 of the money list to gain a promotion but hopes to make the most of a second chance to plunder a tour card at PGA Catalunya in Girona.

“I qualified through the school in 2009,” said Doak. “I like the course, I score well there and if the putting works then there’s no reason why I can’t get my card there.”

Stirling’s Craig Lee, already in the promotion places at No.12 going into the Grand Final, had hoped to break into the top 10 of the order of merit to earn a far higher category for next season, but his 71 for a 276, which gave him a share of 19th, dropped him to 14th.

Italian Andrea Pavan’s 71, for a 17-under 267, won by a shot from Southport 20-year-old Tommy Fleetwood, who thereby became the youngest player to top the Challenge Tour rankings.
