The Scottish Ladies' Golfing Association (SLGA) yesterday launched a free programme aimed at encouraging girls to take up the game.

The SLGA Golf Girls will be led by the organisation's development coach, Ian Muir, and will run at six locations around Scotland in April with a series of follow up sessions in June.

The one day gatherings will provide an informal chance for any girl under the age of 18 to try the sport with three, six, or nine hole opportunities available.

The Whitecraigs club on the south side of Glasgow will host the first Golf Girls day on April 8.
