Paul Lawrie and Richie Ramsay are among the 30 leading players on Europe's Ryder Cup qualifying table who have an appointment with their tailor at Wentworth next week, in preparation for qualifying for the September showdown at Medinah.

Lawrie is currently fifth while Ramsay, who was measured for his European team uniform two years ago ahead of the 2010 Celtic Manor Ryder Cup, has moved up to 15th after finishing with a share of 16th place in the Spanish Open.

"It's a nice thing to happen, getting fitted for Ryder Cup uniforms; it looks good on the cv," he said. "We're getting fitted for trousers, jumpers and waterproofs. It's all lovely gear; there are no expenses spared. The good thing is that Paul [Lawrie] had a good foot in the door; he needs just to cement his place in the side."

Jose Maria Olazabal, the Europe captain, said Glenmuir would be providing samples and colours for him to select. "I have the job of choosing the colours but there will be range of options," he said. "I've also got a few meetings at Wentworth so it's going to be a busy week."

Missing from the leading 30 at present are the former Ryder Cup players Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Edoardo Molinari and Oliver Wilson. Olazabal has confirmed he will choose just two vice-captains to take with him to Medinah, a decision which is in contrast to Colin Montgomerie, the victorious Celtic Manor Ryder Cup captain, who had a backroom team of six, including vice-captains in Paul McGinley, Thomas Bjorn and Clarke.

Montgomerie also brought Olazabal and his compatriot Sergio Garcia on board, while the Welshman Rhys Davies was there in an 'ambassador' role.

"I know Davis Love will have four assistants but I am having just two," said Olazabal. "It's a lot of headaches if you have more than two; too many headaches.

"Davis said to me he will be picking his assistants about 60 days from now, at the beginning of July. I'm not in any rush so we'll just wait and see."

Olazabal has again thrown down the gauntlet to Harrington, the triple major winner who is only 36th on the table. "The ideal situation for me would be to have all the top players in the top 12, like Lee [Westwood], Luke [Donald], Rory [McIlroy], GMac [Graeme McDowell], Martin Kaymer and Ian Poulter," he said. "For players like Harrington the ball is still in his court. They have to show form."
