I am compelled to clarify inaccuracies in a letter in Fans with Laptops (Mar 23).

Had Mr Wallace spent less time on "online media sources", he might be in a better position to separate fact from fiction.

First, Jim McIntyre, the former Dunfermline Athletic manager, did not receive a two-match ban for the comments made on 3.12.11. Instead, at a Judicial Panel hearing, it was determined that no rule had been breached and no further action was taken.

Second, Stuart McCall did not receive a one-match ban for his comments on 11.3.12. On the contrary, the case is still in process but the Notice of Complaint refers to alleged behaviour in the tunnel area, as reported by the match officials. There is no such complaint for any public comments made by Mr McCall.

Third, it is worth pointing out that post-match comments are not part of the Fast Track system. While it would, therefore, be inappropriate to comment further on the quotes attributed to Mr Lennon in the aftermath of the League Cup final at this stage, given that he has been invited to explain his comments, it is nevertheless important to make that distinction.

Finally, Mr Wallace's reference to "bans . . . meted out" by the Compliance Officer is, again, wholly inaccurate. The role of the Compliance Officer is not to issue sanctions but to refer potential rule breaches to a Judicial Panel consisting of three independent members selected from a "cab rank" system.

Someone should sit down the Scottish Rugby Union and explain to them the difference between success and failure. Their ludicrous decision to reward the failure of the Scotland attack coach – we can now add Italy to the list of teams we cannot score against – by placing him in charge of the more successful of our two pro teams, at the expense of the current head coach has been well documented over the past couple of weeks.

Sean Lineen and his fellow coaches have built up a strong squad, as was evident when many of the players were on international duty and those left behind achieved results which have kept the team in the mix for a play-off position. Even more bizarre is the manner in which the Glasgow Warriors defence coach, Gary Mercer, has been treated. Based on points conceded, Glasgow have the best defensive record in the RaboDirect PRO12 League. Gary's reward for this achievement? To be sacked by the SRU. Appalling.
