Marc Austin, the world under-23 silver medallist, has set his sights on helping Scotland to a medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old made his announcement after being named as Scotland's Triathlete of the Year at the sport's annual awards.

The Glaswegian, edged out world championship finalist David McNamee to win the honour for the first time, has been tipped to make the GB team for the 2016 Olympics. And the teenager, who is also studying maths at Stirling University, wants to start making his name on the senior stage.

"This was a good year but I think there's more to come," said Austin. "I had a few races against senior athletes like the Brownlees so I know what I need to do. I plan to go to New Zealand and Australia over the winter, nail down my place at the Commonwealth Games and then set my focus on Glasgow.

"A Commonwealth Games is my home city is a once in a lifetime opportunity. That's what I'm working towards."
