ERIK MORALES, the first Mexican-born boxer in history to win world titles in four different weight classes, has expressed a desire to parade his legendary ring skills before a Scottish audience.

Morales, 36, has sounded out Commonwealth light-welterweight champion Willie Limond about the possibility of securing a money- spinning bout in Glasgow later this year as he nears the end of his distinguished career.

Morales has only ever boxed in his homeland and the United States in a glittering 61-fight career, but he is keen to give Scottish fight fans a glimpse of the lightning-fast hands that have downed 15 different world champions.

Limond, who will make the first defence of his Commonwealth crown against Mitch Prince at Bellahouston Sports Centre on Friday evening, formed a close bond with Morales when the pair fought in Mexico City three years ago.

Morales, beaten only nine times, stopped 34-year-old Limond in the sixth round with the Glaswegian suffering from breathing difficulties caused by fighting at altitude.

They have kept in regular touch and Limond revealed: "Erik contacted me through Facebook saying that he would like to come to Britain and asking how much he would get for fighting here.

"He also asked if my manager, Tommy Gilmour, and I would be willing to promote him and I replied that of course we would.

"He even suggested that the pair of us might get it on again and I don't see any reason why that cannot happen. Even if it isn't me, Morales fighting in Glasgow would be huge because he is a true legend with a worldwide reputation. Apparently, he has got a bout in Tijuana this month and he asked me to come to Mexico to spar with him. That's a measure of how well I did against him, I suppose.

"I have got a young family and being away from home for weeks is not ideal. He wanted me there for three months, that's a big commitment."
