THE road to Glasgow began in earnest for Scotland's gymnasts as they had their first opportunity this weekend to qualify for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Among them was Adam Cox (City of Glasgow) who, having announced his return from retirement last autumn, won his first senior men's all-around title in seven years at the Scottish National Gymnastics Championships on Saturday.

In yesterday's individual apparatus finals he added four more golds, on pommel horse, vault, parallel bars and high bar, as well as a bronze on floor.

Liam Davie (City of Glasgow) took double gold on floor and rings in the senior men's finals.

Having lifted her fourth consecutive senior women's all-around title on Saturday, Amy Regan (City of Glasgow) followed up with a gold on vault and floor, and bronze on uneven bars yesterday.

In the opening day of competition she posted an overall score of 52.367 to place herself in contention for an all-round spot in Glasgow next summer – the only gymnast to do so.

In addition, she met the individual qualifying standards on vault and floor on both days of competition.

On the comeback trail was Emma White (City of Birmingham) who took gold on uneven bars and beam, and bronze on floor, adding to her silver in the women's senior all-around competition.

White competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, but in Delhi four years later a knee injury forced her to head home for surgery before competition had even begun.

She returned to training in January and this weekend marked her first competition since 2010, gaining the qualification standard on beam and floor.

Others to meet the qualification standard included Cara Kennedy (City of Glasgow) on vault and floor, Kirsty Campbell (Dundee 2K) on vault, Cox on pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar, Davie on high bar and rings, and Douglas Ross (City of Glasgow) on vault.
