Newtonmore team mate Paul MacArthur hailed veteran striker Glen MacKintosh after the latter's four goal show against Inveraray put the injury-hit shinty champions back at the summit.

The Badenoch outfit have been beset by a freakish occurrence of major injuries but veteran marksman MacKintosh's vital goals have been keeping their noses in front.

On Saturday the wily ex-Scotland man bagged all four goals in the 4-1 home win at The Eilan with an aggressive but masterful performance.

And fellow internationalist MacArthur believes the striker is turning back the years with some of his ebullient displays.

"You would never know that Glen is kicking on a bit in years," he smiled.

"He is still playing the same way as ever and, while he deserved all of his goals on Saturday, his all-round play and work rate was incredible.

"Glen takes a lot of hits and treatment because of the way he plays but, to be honest, he thrives on it and that is what happened on Saturday. His goals were a way of him saying to those playing against him that he had the measure of them.

"If it wasn't for Glen's goals, I think we would be struggling a bit up front at the moment."

Newtonmore currently have fellow attackers Danny MacRae, Calum Stewart and Chris Sellar all missing but MacKintosh is clearly relishing the added responsibility in the front line.

With Lovat and Kyles idle, the victory places Newtonmore back at the top of the pile with a welcome free week arriving this Saturday to get key men back.

Elsewhere, teenager Savio Genini was at it again with a hat-trick for Kingussie which saw them end Kinlochshiel's unbeaten Premiership run, 3-2, in Wester Ross.

Fraser Heath was on target for Glen Urquhart at home to Oban Camanachd, ensuring a 1-0 win for Glen which sees them ease into the mid-table position.
