RICKY BURNS learned yesterday that he will now undertake his unification bout against Mexican Miguel Vazquez at Wembley Arena on April 20 – five weeks later than originally planned.

But all may not be what it seems after the world champion's manager Alex Morrison sounded a note of caution concerning the rescheduled bout.

"We are quite unhappy and there are a lot of issues to be settled before Ricky goes into the ring again," he said.

Promoter Frank Warren revealed that he has been forced to cancel his March 16 show because Vazquez has a viral infection.

Burns was unavailable for comment, but tweeted his disappointment after a second big-fight in the space of three months was shelved.

He said: "Absolutely gutted this fight aint happening another training camp n it's fell through" before adding: "Not only that, feel sorry for fans, my friends and family who have now booked tickets, flights and hotels for 2 fights for it to fall through."

Frank Warren Promotions said in a statement: "There was an opportunity to bring in a replacement challenger for Burns, but it was agreed at this stage of his career, it was essential the unification contest went ahead, even if it meant a slight delay.

"He felt it was important that he still fight Vazquez for the IBF world title and unify the belts and then head into a possible fight against WBC title-holder Adrien Broner."

"It's very unfortunate that Vazquez has had to withdraw so close to the fight, but it is on medical grounds, which is beyond my control, due to his viral infection, and we have his doctor's certificate confirming this.

California-based doctor Roman Cruz Olais stated in his medical report that Vazquez was suffering from a severe viral infection caused by food poisoning.

He said the boxer was suffering from a high temperature, nausea, vomiting and palpitations when he examined him and recommended he stop training for 10 days.

Broner, undefeated in 26 fights, took the chance to make mischief when he tweeted Burns: "What up Ricky Burns now that your fight is cancelled come fight me BITCH!!!!" Burns laughed off the taunt when he replied: "ha ha you've cheered me up a bit the day with that!"
