As befits an event being held just across the border there will be considerable Scottish interest throughout the afternoon at the Great North City Games, including the following:

1.37pm - Olympic and World Championship 5000 metres finalist Andrew Butchart lines up in the men’s mile against Charlie Grice, Elliot Giles and Marcin Lewandowski, who finished seventh in the World Championships over 1500 metres

2.02pm - 800 metres specialist Lynsey Sharp returns to defend the title she won last year in 1.06.62, the third fastest ever 500metres and returns to defend her title against Anyika Onuora, who won bronze as part of Britain’s 4x400 metres women’s relay team in Rio, Perri Shakes-Drayton, part of the 2012 Olympics 4x400 metres women’s relay team and European U20 800 metres silver medallist Ellie Bakeras well as Holland’s Lisanne De Witte and Spain’s Laura Bueno.

2.12pm - Guy Learmonth and Martyn Rooney have their showdown over 500 metres on the road

2.22pm - Jemma Reekie, the newly crowned Scottish 800 metres champion and training partner of last year’s winner Laura Muir, lines up in the mile with Holland’s Susan Krumins and Kenya’s Winny Chebet , as well as experienced English pair Adelle Tracey, Rosie Clarke
