Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Corrie Scott finished second in the 200m breaststroke B final at the British Championships in Edinburgh last night and the 24-year-old admitted that with her specialist event, the 50m breaststroke coming today, she is in a good frame of mind. “That was tough - I don’t normally do the 200m breaststroke,” she said.
“I’d liked to have gone a little bit faster but I’m happy with second. And this meet isn’t so much about times - it’s more about practicing race tactics. I’m probably not going to be doing the 200m in Gold Coast so it’s good just to be doing lots of racing. I’ve got the 50m today so that’s my main event so I’m looking forward to getting a hit out there and, hopefully, going fast.”
The Scottish swimmers leave for Australia in just two weeks and Scott could not be feeling better about what will be her third Games. “I’m so excited,” she said.
“I’m feeling strongere than I ever have and fitter than I ever have. This weekend isn’t about hitting certain times, it’s about race tactics which I’ve been working on and they’re much better than normal so I’m feeling really positive.”
Elsewhere, Commonwealth Games champion Dan Wallace was fifth in the 200m individual medley, Hannah Miley, who is entered in a whopping nine events over the weekend, was sixth in the 200m breaststroke, Stephen Milne was fourth in the 800m freestyle and Kathleen Dawson was fourth in the 100m backstroke.
