Glasgow Warriors have moved their European Rugby Champions Cup match against Racing 92 on January 23 to Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park due to a high risk of their Scotstoun pitch being unplayable due to heavy rain in recent weeks.
Warriors’ 1872 Scottish Cup second-leg game against Edinburgh two weeks ago was shifted to BT Murrayfield because of pitch issues but Kilmarnock’s stadium has a World Rugby compliant 3G pitch and hosted the first ever Tier 1 rugby international on an artificial surface last November, when Scotland beat Tonga 37-12.
Glasgow Warriors managing director Nathan Bombrys, said: “We’re disappointed to have to move another game away from our home at Scotstoun, but are pleased to have such a quality venue as Rugby Park available to host this important European fixture.
“We’ve taken the decision this week to give our supporters as much notice as possible to make their arrangements to support the team, as well as to provide both teams with certainty for their preparations for the match.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Kilmarnock Football Club for being so accommodating and we look forward to staging a Glasgow Warriors European home match in Ayrshire for the first time.”
Around 6,650 tickets have already been sold for the Pool 3 clash with the Top 14 leaders and an additional 7500 match tickets will become available from the Warriors on Thursday.
Edinburgh scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, meanwhile, has pledged his immediate future to the capital club after signing a new two-year deal.
After agreeing a contract which runs until May 2018, the Guinness PRO12 young player of the year, said: “It’s my home town, I’ve lots of friends here and from a rugby perspective, the way that the club’s been moving forward over the last year or so, there’s no doubt in my mind that the best decision is to stay with Edinburgh Rugby.”
Head coach Alan Solomons said: “I am delighted that Sam will continue his progress with us. He is an exceptionally talented young player, who, I believe, has a great future in the game. I enjoy working with him and am pleased that I can continue to do so.”
