Currie pipped Gala to a BT Premiership championship play-off spot in dramatic fashion yesterday after the Edinburgh club defeated Glasgow Hawks 15-10.
The victory means that Currie finished fourth in the top flight and will face a semi-final against Heriot's next weekend.
Few would have predicted that Ben Cairns' side would finish in such a position after they lost 60-22 against Gala back in September, but since the turn of the year they have been in great form.
Gala will not be in the play-offs and have been made to pay for a very poor run in the middle of the season when a number of their key players were injured.
Currie were tied with Hawks 10-10 at Malleny Park, but a late try won it for the hosts.
The result also leaves Hawks in trouble.
They still sit ninth in the table and if they lose to Stirling County next week then they would finish in that spot and would have to play a promotion/relegation play-off against GHA who have finished second in BT National League One.
Meanwhile, Ayr won at Melrose 14-13 yesterday and it means that they will now have home advantage when the two sides meet again in the championship play-offs this coming weekend.
Before the match the two sides were guaranteed of top four places, but it was still to be decided who would end up in second and who would be third.
Aye took the lead through former Scotland under-20 player Robbie Fergusson when he scored a converted try before Richard Mill got Melrose on the scoreboard with a penalty.
Ayr managed to extend their lead to 14-3 before the interval when Danny McCluskey scored another converted try and Melrose had a mountain to climb.
Roared on by a big crowd Melrose fought back in the second half and tries by James Head and Hugh Blake brought them within one point, but Ayr held on 14-13.
It means Ayr finished second in the league table with Melrose third.
In BT National League One champions Selkirk finished the season unbeaten after they won at Kelso 32-29.
The result means that they have won 22 out of 22 league matches as they head into the top flight for 2015/16.
However, they had to battle back from 24-5 down at Poynder Park to come through on top and finish an amazing campaign.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
