EDINBURGH look certain to be without the services of one of their key overseas signings, Cornell Du Preez, for the rest of the season after the South Africa-born flanker suffered a "serious" leg injury in the win over Newport Gwent Dragons.

He was taken straight to hospital where he was said to have spent a comfortable night. The medical tests will not be complete until later today but he appears to have broken his right ankle and possibly other bones after being tackled heavily.

Alan Solomons, the Edinburgh head coach, was gloomy after the match and said: "It is very serious."

Glasgow were also licking their wounds in more than one sense after a 20-point defeat by Ulster in Belfast. Centre Mark Bennett was the subject of a questionable tackle that led to him losing consciousness.
