GLASGOW WARRIORS will be back at the Aberdeen Asset Management Melrose Sevens in April to defend their title.

The Scotstoun side sent a strong squad to The Greenyards in 2014 and secured the trophy and this time around, on April 11, they will be joined by other 'guest' teams Germany, North West University from South Africa and Wasps in the draw.

The rest of the talent on show during the event will come from 20 Scottish clubs and Edinburgh Accies upset the odds to reach the final last year before losing 47-14 to the Warriors.

How good a squad the Warriors send to the Borders this year will depend on how they are getting on in the Guinness PRO12 at the time while Wasps will more than likely send a development team.

The last Scottish club side to win the event was Melrose in 2011.

Melrose Sevens convener Ian Cooper said: "The 2015 tournament looks set to be a feast of sevens rugby. By a national development team from Germany accepting an invitation to play at The Greenyards it will see the club's policy of widening sevens participation further extended. The success of last summer's Commonwealth Games tournament has already produced an unprecedented demand for tickets."
