Title holders Marr College have reached the semi-final for a second successive season after a tense quarter-final at Mansfield Park yesterday.

Marr capitalised on their height and weight advantage in the forwards to outscore Hawick by three tries to two with a first-half touchdown from winger Ry McInnes after patient phase play from the pack and second-half scores by flanker Andrew Mcphilemy from a driven line-out and hooker Lewis Anderson from broken play to give Marr a 15-7 lead.

But Hawick, whose paucity of set-piece possession denied their talented backs the chance to run at the Troon school, then produced a fine score started by full-back Darcy Graham and finished by flanker Matthew Mallin to add to their first-half try from centre Sean Chapman. Grant Huggan converted both touchdowns but agonisingly for Hawick, stand-off Huggan narrowly missed two kickable penalties in the final few minutes of the match.
